For the first time, Michael is also interpreting an entire collection of leaves in the proportions in which they actually occur in nature, amplifying the sense of realism for which he is so well known. "I have an abundance of banana trees in my garden in New Delhi, and i must say it sometimes feels as though my life in India revolves around them. Monkeys often visit my backyard to steal the green bananas. And every time we have a dinner party, a fresh banana leaf with candles is placed outside my front door to welcome guests. Often, i cut out round disks that fit perfectly inside of the rims of my dinner plates and serve food on them. It is a reference to the south indian custom of eating on banana leaves, which i find really lovely."
